WP GDPR Fix Review and Bonus

What is WP GDPR Fix?

WP GDPR Fix is simple and easy to use WordPress plugin with 7 "fixes" to better customize your sites to GDPR requirements,

This tool is especially important and a must if you have a WordPress website and customers or website visitors in the EU.

What is the EU GDPR?

The EU privacy regulation (DSGVO) is the most important change of data protection regulations in 20 years. This is a rule of EU law on data protection and privacy for all persons in the European Union. It also deals with the export of personal data outside the EU.

The purpose of the GDPR is primarily to give citizens and residents control over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international companies, by standardizing the regulation within the EU.

Basically, the GDPR will force you to be more transparent, what personal data you collect and what you do with it yourself. In addition, potential customers must give their explicit consent to be able to collect and use this information.

This Regulation will enter into force EU-wide on 25 May 2018.

The regulation is based on the basic idea that every citizen of the EU should have the following rights:

GDPR rights of the data subject

So, what are these 7 GDPR fixes?

  1. Cookie consent. Inform your visitors automatically (via popup) about the use of cookies and get their consent.
  2. Terms of acceptance. Activate / deactivate the check box "Conditions acceptance" and force (optional) the acceptance by the users.
  3. Data Protection Policy. Check Box / Create Privacy Policy button and (optionally) Force User Acceptance.
  4. Right to be forgotten. Collect the right to forgotten requests and automatically notify the site owner / administrator.
  5. Data access. Collect data access requests and inform the administrator automatically.
  6. Notification of data breaches. Sends a legally required notification of data breaches to all users (within 72 hours).
  7. Data correction. Collect data correction requests and update owner and administrator.

All options above are optional. So you can choose to use / install features on your blog.

WP GDPR fix against GDPR Pro

The creators of GDPR Pro Anyone starting 9 days later than WP GDPR Fix will do anything to convince you that it's a better WordPress plugin and that you can or should use it together.

You argue that WP GDPR Fix does not register a cookie consent or privacy policy and / or terms of service if you need to prove that your visitors have given their consent.

And their solution is to show each new visitor (or visitors from certain countries who think of all EU countries for DSGVO purposes) a pop-up window where visitors must enter their name and email address, to tick the box that matches the use of personal information to agree to receive emails and to agree to the Privacy Policy and / or Terms of Use.

And since all these details are logged, you, the owner of the site, have all the evidence and are fully GDPR compliant.

However, this solution is associated with a "high price". You will ask your new visitors to provide their details without having seen your page before.

I do not like this solution and it's a conversion killer, but can you possibly only use GDPR Pro for specific pages?

For me there are 2 situations …

If you use cookies and place pixels, you can use any plug-in that you can use to create a cookie consent field inform Your new visitors that you use cookies. This is required by the GDPR for visitors to EU websites.

As a best practice, check your privacy policy or cookie notification to see what type of cookies you use.

But what happens if someone does not agree that you use cookies on your site?

Well, nothing …

When the browser places your cookie the moment someone visits your website. There is no technical solution for website owners to install a cookie until they have been formally approved.

The only thing a visitor can do is change the cookie settings in his browser and / or delete his browser cookies.

What about retargeting and conversion pixels?

Similar to cookies, the pixel is "triggered" when a page is loaded.

Again, the website visitor has no control.

The only thing a website visitor can do is to change his settings Ad protection settings (Link goes to page where you can do it in Facebook).

From a site visitor's point of view this can be quite annoying or frustrating as most commercial websites use cookies and pixels. At least you have some control over your browser and privacy settings on social platforms.

For site owners, a cookie approval field is generally sufficient.

What about e-mail subscriptions?

I do not go into more detail, but under DSGVO you need the permission to send e-mails. There are legitimate reasons for some e-mail related to purchase transactions, but you need a formal approval for promotional and marketing e-mails. And if you're creating your list with a giveaway, you'll need to specify what kind of information you're sending in your emails, or you'll need to obtain explicit permission to send that type of email.

There's a lot of discussion about what your email subscription should look like and whether you need a checkbox or not. However, this will depend on the words you use (be as clear as possible and tell your new subscribers what they can expect to avoid complaints and unsubscribe).

But most importantly …

All major e-mail service providers will register new subscription and cancellation data (such as date, time, IP address, GEO location).

And even though you have to completely erase all data under GDPR when prompted by an e-mail subscriber, you probably do not need a plug-in as a GDPR Pro to comply with GDPR.

For me the only reason to buy GDPR Pro To get access to the 3 interviews with the lawyers of the GDPR, or

in the event that you wish to block access to your website (or individual website) and only show the content to persons from whom you have received the formal approval (and registration). Consider agreeing to privacy, terms of service, cookie notification, use of personal information, and more.

Are there any defects?

Well, all functions work as described or shown in the demo video.

To fulfill the GDPR, it is not enough to install only this plugin!

The GDPR contains much more regulations. For example, you must clearly state / explain what data you collect for what reason, how long you save the data and how you act to protect your information, and whether you store data outside the EU.

Therefore, you will probably need to analyze (and record) your data collection and procedures, as well as update your privacy policy, terms of service and cookie policy.

In addition, everything depends on what type of data you collect and what kind of external software and apps you use. You have your own responsibility and can not hide behind external suppliers.

In particular, if you violate or violate any part of the law after initial sanctions, companies may be fined up to € 20 million (approximately $ 23.5 million) or 4% of a company's worldwide sales be imposed, whichever is greater.

That's why I advise you to do your "homework" and take this new regulation seriously.

A good start is Suzanne Dibbles Webinar Replay & Compliance Pack,

The plugin is very easy to use and available at a very reasonable price.
